Supporting our team
Volunteering with the Mariners
The Pictou County Mariners relies on families working together to support our swimmers, coaches and club activities.
There are currently no mandatory volunteer hours or quotas. However, we encourage every family to help when they can. Sharing the workload makes a real difference and helps prevent the same few people from carrying it all.

What We Ask of Parents
We understand that families have different schedules and commitments. You do not need to help with everything, but we ask parents to:
- Read volunteer requests and consider where they can help.
- Respond by the requested deadline when a reply is needed.
- Choose opportunities that suit their availability and skills.
- Follow through when they sign up.
Whether you can offer a few hours occasionally or take on an ongoing role, your contribution is appreciated.

Ways to Get Involved
There are many ways to help—not all of them involve being on the pool deck.
Meets and Club Activities
- Timekeeping or officiating at swim meets
- Helping with meet setup, cleanup and other behind-the-scenes jobs
- Supporting club celebrations and activities
- Helping with fundraising activities
Behind the Scenes
- Taking photos or helping with communications
- Assisting with administrative tasks
- Joining a committee or the club executive
- Sharing a skill that could help the club

Helping at Our Swim Meets
Every swim meet is run by volunteers.
When PCM hosts a meet, we need both trained officials and people helping in other roles.
We would like at least one person from every family to complete the Timekeeper course. It is easy to do, available online at any time and open to anyone aged 12 or older.
Timekeeping is a great way to watch the racing up close, meet other families and learn more about the sport.
Every contribution counts
Small Contributions Still Matter
Volunteering does not have to mean joining the executive or committing to every event.
Helping with one meet session, setting up for a club activity or completing a task from home can all make a difference. If you have a skill you think could help the club, we would love to hear about it.
Signing Up and Following Through
Volunteer opportunities will be shared through club communications, along with details about the role, timing and how to sign up.
If you volunteer, please:
- Check the instructions and arrival time.
- Ask questions if you are unsure what is involved.
- Let the organizer know as soon as possible if you can no longer attend.
Early notice gives us time to find someone else and keeps things running smoothly.
Not Sure Where to Start?
You do not need experience to lend a hand. We can help you find a role that suits your interests and availability.
