meet our coaches
Our coaches are at the heart of the Mariners, helping our swimmers build confidence, strong technique, and a lifelong love for the sport. They create a positive, supportive environment where athletes can grow and thrive. Here’s the team guiding our swimmers every step of the way.

coach ed
Age Group
Coach Ed started swimming competitively in 1982 with a summer swim team in Quebec. He swam with the Age Group program of the Cape Breton Dorados from 1982-1993 and later swam for the Dalhousie Tigers from 1993-1997.
His coaching career started in high school working with the Novice squad of the Cape Beton Dorados. Coach Ed began coaching with the Mariners in 2004.
When not on the pool deck, he can be found teaching Science at North Nova Education Centre in New Glasgow.

coach tara
Age Group
Coach Tara began her journey with the Mariners in 1982 as a young swimmer who quickly fell in love with the sport. Her passion carried her through a successful varsity career at Dalhousie University before she transitioned to coaching in 1998. In 2002, she returned home to the Mariners—this time on deck—where she’s been inspiring athletes ever since.
With decades of experience and a deep connection to the team, Tara is driven by a genuine love for swimming and a commitment to helping young athletes discover their potential, build confidence, and achieve their goals.

Coach Marie
Nova Tech
Coach Marie has always had a passion for swimming. Her journey in the sport saw her become a competitive age grouper for the Canadian Forces, where she had the opportunity to compete across Central Europe. Marie quickly found her calling in teaching and coaching. In the 90's she started teaching in the water as part of the Pupil Training Program, often referred to as the Red Cross Colors.
Marie finds joy in coaching by helping athletes progress and reach their full potential while having fun. Marie believes guiding the next generation of swimmers to love the life long skill of swimming will lead them toward success in and out of the pool.

kiera
Hi, I'm Kiera! I began swimming in 2016 and now am a AAA swimmer who loves the 50 and 200 back. Hard practices and long meets have taught me strength, grit, and determination. Support from teammates & coaches has shaped me, and I’m grateful for the friendships this sport has brought. I’m excited to coach with PCM and share my enthusiasm, laughter, and love for swimming with the next generation.
