Helping Keep Competitive Swimming Affordable
The Pictou County Mariners is a not-for-profit competitive swim club serving young swimmers and families throughout Pictou County. We work hard to keep our fees as affordable as possible so that more children have the opportunity to participate in competitive swimming. Fundraising and community sponsorships play an important role in making this possible. Every fundraiser supported, donation made and sponsorship received helps our swimmers continue to train, compete, grow in confidence and be part of a supportive team.
Where Does the Money Go?
Keeping Costs Down
Competitive swimming can be expensive for families. Fundraising helps offset the club’s operating costs and allows us to keep registration and training fees as affordable as possible.
Pool Rental and Coaching
Pool rental and qualified coaching are two of the club’s most significant expenses. Fundraising helps us provide swimmers with consistent training and knowledgeable coaches while reducing the amount that must be covered through registration fees.
Coach Travel
Our swimmers attend competitions throughout Nova Scotia and beyond. Fundraising helps cover eligible travel expenses for our coaches so they can support swimmers at meets without placing the full cost on participating families.
Training Equipment
Fundraising helps us purchase and replace essential equipment, including kickboards, pull buoys, fins, resistance equipment and other training tools used to support swimmer development.
Supporting Our Swimmers
Most importantly, fundraising helps provide our swimmers with opportunities to train, compete, develop new skills, build confidence and form lasting friendships through sport.
Current & PAST Fundraisers
Pictou exhibition
Each September, PCM swimmers and parents come together to help with parking at the Pictou-North Colchester Exhibition.
This is one of our biggest annual fundraisers and plays an important role in helping the club keep swimming costs as affordable as possible.
It is also a valued part of our club culture—giving swimmers and parents an opportunity to work together, get to know one another and connect with the wider community.
We are grateful to the Exhibition and to everyone who supports our club by parking with us each year.
swim-a-thon
After bringing back the PCM Swim-a-Thon last year for the first time in many years, we hope to make it an annual club event.
During the Swim-a-Thon, our swimmers challenge themselves in the pool, test their endurance and raise funds to support the continued growth of the club.
From our newest swimmers to our AAA competitors, every member of the Mariners takes part.
Funds raised help purchase training equipment and contribute to the ongoing costs of providing a strong, affordable competitive swimming program within our community.
It is a fun and rewarding event that gives every swimmer an opportunity to work towards a personal goal while supporting their team.
